Armed with an array of impressive features, the ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard will gratify even the most intense overclockers. With smart tools like AI NOS, AI Overclocking, ASUS PEG Link, and ASUS AI Booster, it's easy to tinker with. The Precision Tweaker offers accurate voltage control for your CPU (vCore) and Memory (vDIMM).
The incorporated SFS (Stepless Frequency Selection) provides easy adjustments of the CPU FSB, memory clock speed, and the PCI-E frequency and allows you to squeeze the maximum possible performance from the system. The P5B Deluxe ASUS C.P.R. overclocking protection tool is a life-saver in situations wherein you go ballistic. The ASUS Quiet Thermal Solution (8-Phase Power Design, Stack Cool 2, Heat Pipe Design) provides silent, effective cooling and improves system interoperability.
It's based on the Intel P965 chipset and supports all of Intel's Dual Core processors (Socket T). Courtesy its DDR2 800 dual channel memory system architecture (8 GB max capacity), dual PCI-E X16 graphic card slots, four expansion slots (1 x PCI-E X1 + 3 x PCI), and nine ATA connectors (8 x SATA + 1 x PATA), it is an ideal base for a high-end dual-GPU gaming rig.
- Intel P965+ICH8R Chipset The Intel P965 Express Chipset incorporates Intel Fast Memory Access technology to significantly increase overall system performance by optimizing available bandwidth and reduction of memory access latency. Up to dual-channel DDR2 800 memory is supported by the P965 chipset to provide up to 12.8 GB/s peak memory bandwidth for greater platform performance and memory flexibility. The ICH8R also features SATA 3Gb/s with Intel Matrix Storage Technology support, High-Speed USB 2.0 and HD Audio support.
- Intel Core 2 Processor Support This motherboard supports the next-generation LGA 775 Intel Core 2 processors including the Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme. With Intel's brand-new Core microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 processors are considered as some of the most powerful and energy-efficient CPUs in the world.
- ATI CrossFire Multi-GPU Technology Support The ASUS P5B Deluxe incorporates support for ATI CrossFire technology – its dual PCI Express x16 slots can be configured to x16 + x4 mode for ATI CrossFire mode, with simple paddle-less mode switching.
- 8 Phase Power Design The ASUS 8-Phase Power Design protects the CPU and power module from the risk of excessively high power stress to greatly extend CPU lifetime and system stability. The highly-efficient design also generates less heat to ensure low ambient temperatures, while the vigorous power pump delivers serious overclocking potential.
- Fanless Design for Ultra-Quiet Operation The ASUS fanless motherboard concept was created specifically for cool running computing environments without the possibility of fan noise or malfunction. To address thermal issues across the motherboard, ASUS utilizes tailor-made heat pipes and heat sinks to maximize heat dissipation and thermal performance.
- Q-Connector The ASUS Q-Connector allows single-step connection and disconnection of chassis front panel cables with one complete module. This unique adapter ensures quick and accurate connections without the trouble of plugging cables in separately.

Pros: This board was my first build when I was just getting started. I have had it for over 8 years and never had a problem with it. The P5B has been through a few upgrades - memory, video, sound and processor - and come out stronger every time. The reason I am here now is that I am seeking a replacement. I finally crippled the board by accident and am looking to get back to where it was. I highly recommend not only this board, but the ASUS brand as well. CS
Cons: I have never had a problem. I find no faults with this board.
Overall Review: I recommend this board without hesitation - even after over 8 years of use.
Pros: Bought this 10 years ago for a desktop machine. Its now turned into a file server and gets a lot of constant use. Everything about it is still awesome. Gigabit network ports is what keeps it around.
Cons: None. Everything works great!
Overall Review: Adding an extra 4GB ram to bring the machine up to 8GB. Runs perfect with windows 7, trying Windows 10 today. Will update if there are any issues. I expect none.
Comments: I am still running this in my PC as unfortunately I cannot afford to build myself a new PC. I am actually looking at getting the LGA775 Wolfdale Dual Core on sale today as I am having issues with my processor being old as well and starting to give me headaches.
Asus P5b Deluxe Motherboard Drivers
Pros: It was a motherboard with adequate features and a wide amount of leeway for peripherals.
Cons: Onboard sound is SoundMax. There was a terrible crackling noise during sound playback. Resolved with a SoundBlaster Audigy.
After a year, USB external HDDs started to throw errors. Thought they were the drive. Eventually computer stopped recognizing USB HDDs altogether. Reformatting did not resolve. Updating Windows did not resolve. Contacted ASUS Support and received no help at all. Mouse has started to give out randomly as well. The problem is spreading!
Overall Review: It worked fine for a year with the only downside being SoundMax. Randomly the USBs gave out and stopped recognizing devices. Avoid this board like the plague! Because of it, I have to look into a new motherboard.
I have never had good luck with ASUS but this board didn't come DoA so I considered myself lucky. Unfortunately my optimism fell short due to the aforementioned USB issues.
Pros: bios is easy to work with. nice setup, seems durable. good instructions.
Cons: onboard sound sucks.
Overall Review: get a soundcard, the onboard sound that comes with this mobo is horrible. if you get lost trying to plug something in or trying to figure out beep codes read the instruction book.
Pros: Worked great for about a year. Used a C2Duo 6600, 2GB DDR800, ATI 1950XT. SB XFI. Played movies fine (main use) and gamed great (secondary) Tons of features.
Cons: After about a year, the USB ports all died. In windows XP they would just constantly 'pop' with errors in windows, complaining about unknown devices, unplug errors, and the popping windows sound would go off every 3-5 seconds. No devices worked using the ports, had to disable them in bios. In linux, the USB ports spewed all sorts of errors on boot, and likewise nothing could be used on USB.
Overall Review: Other than the apparent hardware failure after a year of use (almost always on basically as a HTPC) the board was great. Had some issues though installing windows. It would take 3-5 install attempts to install windows XP. Same problem with roommate's similar Asus P5b line board (not a deluxe). Windows instal would blue screen and windows boots would occasionally fail after loading the SATA driver. Never figured it out, replaced his board, and I stopped using windows altogether.
Pros: When it worked, it worked well.
Cons: Intermittent failure of certain SATA ports, causing RAID-0 write failures and lockups, system corruption.
Overall Review: Operated nominally with ~20% system overclock (core, FSB, RAM timings, and RAID-0) for about a year and a half but SATA port failures began to cause periodic RAID errors. Failure frequency was related to which port was used. System was usually recoverable, but after my third OS reinstall for the bad failures, I have decided to replace the board with DFI BloodIron P35-T2RL.
